Depardieu loves bikes, despite 17 crashes

The French film star Gerard Depardieu says that nothing can bring him off his motorbikes, despite probably having very high bike insurance premiums.

The star of Green Card and countless French films has suffered 17 crashes and many broken legs. He fell off a scooter in Paris during 2004, as well as suffering motorcycle accidents in 1998 and 2003.

The star is no stranger to mishaps. He has also suffered from heart problems, for which he has needed bypass surgery, and has survived a plane crash. But contactmusic.com reported that he and the two-wheelers were inseparable.

He said that his worst accident involved surgeons working on "five breaks" in his legs: "They bolted the bones together under a local anaesthetic because I was still recovering from the bypass. I was back filming two days later."

Despite his many accidents, he says that he will "always ride a motorbike" and that he loves "the feeling of freedom".

Gerard has appeared in over a 100 films, including My Father the Hero and 102 Dalmations.
