Harris Turbo to debut at NEC

A historic turbo charged motorbike is to be shown at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show at Birmingham's NEC.

The Harris 1260cc Kawasaki Turbo has been reconstructed in memory of its creator Dave Grant, who died in a motorcycle accident in 2000. It will be showing at the BSR-Aerotek stand at the NEC Motorcycle Show.

The bike was originally built in 1987 from parts of a recovered Mk I Harris Z1000. The machine was said by Mat Oxley, who reviewed the motorcycle for the magazine Performance Bikes, to be innovative for placing the petrol tank below the engine and placing the turbo on top of it.

Wendy Grant, who now runs BSR-Aerotek, said: "I rode this bike back in 1987, when Dave and I were first going out. It was absolutely mad, it pulled your arms out of their sockets when the turbo kicked in…. and I never did try the nitrous button!"

She said that the bike had changed the direction of the company: "We were just Braided Steel back in the 1987, specialising in braided hoses. It was the difficulty Dave had in sourcing various fasteners for this project that urged him to source and manufacture bike-related bolts himself, setting up the Aerotek range in 1993."

Visitors will be able to see the bike when the show opens between October 28th and November 6th.
