New diesel C3 set for 2006 launch

Citroen is adding a diesel option to its C3 range.

The 1.6 16v HDI will be brought into the line up during 2006 and will deliver 110bhp.

The French firm is also planning on making a number of cosmetic tweaks to the car including some new front end design details and a revised dashboard, designed to provide a "clearer driver information system".

To help handle the new 16-valve engine, Citroen is also upgrading the suspension system to a firmer VTR version.

The diesel version will be Citroen's most expensive C3, coming in at £13,295 and above, while the petrol engine editions start at £9,195. All models feature ABS, twin air bags and five 3-point seatbelts as standard.

"The enduring appeal of the Citroen C3 has been given a big lift with these enhancements to the line-up," explained Xavier Duchemin, executive director of Citroen UK.

"It is also further evidence of our commitment to diesel technology and the consequent lower costs that this can bring for customers."

The company claims it has sold over 85,000 C3s in the UK since the car launched in 2002. It says that all of its cars comply with Euro IV emissions standards.
