North-west site 'just missed out on caravan gong'
A Fylde coast caravan site narrowly missed picking up a top caravan award this week, it has been reported.
The Blackpool Gazette has stated that the Sunset Park attraction in Hambleton was picked as one of 44 shortlisted areas in the country to pick up a gong at the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2008.
It added that it was the only site in the north-west to be put forward for a prize at the show, which was held last Wednesday at St George's Hall in Liverpool.
Poston Mill Park in Hertfordshire went home with the award, narrowly beating the five-star attraction.
It may be that an increase in customers to the site results in higher caravan insurance premiums, as cover firms could view more vehicles as an indication of higher risk.
Michael Taylor, managing director of the group behind the park Carr Royd, commented that the success of the site was "very much a team effort".
"We were all chuffed to bits to be in the country's final...It was sad, however, that there were no other Fylde coast, or even Lancashire, finalists in the remaining 14 categories," said the official.
This year's awards ceremony marked the event's 19th year.
