Statistics show 70 per cent fall in caravan theft
New figures show that the number of caravan thefts in the UK has fallen significantly in the last eight years, a blog has reported.
Pink News has cited statistics from the National Vehicle Crime Conference which show that there has been a 70 per cent reduction in incidents since 2000.
As a result, it may be that caravan insurance companies offer cheaper policies, as they may view the fall as indicative of a lesser risk.
The news source added that the Home Office has been in close collaboration with the Leisure Sector Crime Reduction Action Team (LSCRAT) to help bring down caravan crime.
"Over 5,000 caravans were being stolen every year causing distress to their owners and costing the industry millions. By working together we have reduced that by some 70 per cent," commented Alan Bishop, chairman of the LSCRAT.
"It is important that we continue to build on this success," Mr Bishop added.
Meanwhile, police in the south of Durham have recovered stolen caravans in the area, a local news source has reported.
According to the Northern Echo, the motor homes are worth around £25,000 altogether.
