Caravan park opens ahead of schedule

Traveller activity has resulted in a caravan site on the outskirts of a County Durham town being opened ahead of schedule, it has been reported.

According to the Northern Echo, Shaw Bank in Barnard Castle was originally set to begin operations on May 22nd.

However, councillors have decided to open the site earlier due to an influx of caravans heading into the region for the Appleby Horse Fair.

It may be that the extra vehicles in the area result in motor home cover companies increasing the cost of cover if they perceive damage as likely.

The move will give "peace of mind" to local people who have suffered due to the annual influx of travellers at this time of year in the past, according to councillor Tony Cooke.

He said: "Opening the site ahead of schedule means that the travellers will have all the facilities they need and refuse collections will be arranged."

Appleby-in-Westmorland is a town in Cumbria with a population of around 2,500.

It is overlooked by Appleby Castle - the home of Lady Anne Clifford in the seventeenth century.
