Caravan-community safety project honoured in Fylde
A community-based initiative between caravan parks and members of the Fylde Community Safety Partnership has won praise for its important work.
The Neighbourhood Watch-style scheme was recognised at an award show which aimed to celebrate Problem Orientated Partnerships (POP) across Blackpool and Fylde.
Named Caravan Watch, the scheme was set up in direct response to a number of reported break-ins at caravan parks in the Little Eccleston area.
In the past, poor communication between the difference sites meant that some owners were unaware of the problems and so did not step up security.
By working with local businesses, residents, council officers and police, a line of communications was established between the various caravan parks to better guard against thefts.
At the awards, superintendent Richard Debicki praised the scheme, saying: "These kinds of partnerships are becoming more and more part of the daily routine of police work due to their effectiveness in dealing with difficult issues in a community."
He explained that the project showed the power of "working together as a more powerful influence with all the other local agencies".
The Fylde Community Safety Partnership was established in October 1998 and aims to make the area safer for residents and visitors.
