Caravan travellers 'may wish to plan a UK holiday'

People with caravans may be well-advised to take a break in the UK, according to VisitBritain.

Spokesperson for the national tourism agency Elliot Frisby said that culture, countryside, music and sport make Britain an unrivalled holiday destination.

He said: "Culture is a key appeal and where else can you enjoy free national museums and galleries."

Mr Frisby added: "Our countryside and coastline is another appeal."

Sporting events such as Ladies Day at Ascot and Wimbledon, along with social events such as Glastonbury and the Chelsea Flower Show are also making Britain a popular holiday destination, he said.

According to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA), in 2007 St Paul's Cathedral was visited by over 1.5 million people and Blackpool Pleasure Beach was visited by 5.5 million people.

According to American Express, there has been a renewed interest in driving holidays with 32 per cent of Brits are considering going on a caravan holiday.
