Council reports caravan comeback

People in the UK are booking a caravan holiday this summer in a bid to beat the credit crunch, an industry body has claimed.

The Times has reported that the National Caravan Council has stated that there has been a 20 per cent rise in 2008 in the number of people planning to head for a cheap motor home vacation.

As a result, it may be that there is a parallel rise in those taking out caravan insurance policies, as Britons look to cover their vehicles against any damage they incur.

The council added that many parents are also looking to keep their children away from the computer and television by holidaying closer to nature - a caravan vacation perk enjoyed by Caravan Club president Lord Coke.

"I've always loved being outdoors and the great thing about a caravan is that you open the door and you're immediately in the open air," said the official.

Meanwhile, Holkham this welcomed an estimated 3,000 caravans and 10,000 people to the Caravan Club's annual rally this bank holiday weekend, according to figures from the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press.
