New golf course to be built near caravan park

Reighton Gap Holiday Park will soon be adding to their facilities by building a 25 acre cliff top golf course near the Reighton Sands Holiday Caravan Park.

Prospective buyers of caravan insurance may be interested to know that the 'links-style' course will be available for play in the peak season between March and November for guests and visitors.

The site used to be agricultural land and although it lies outside of the approved area for the park, the company look set to landscape the area to include bunkers, greens and tees.

However, the project will not include the construction of any buildings on the area, which is currently just rough scrubland.

The restrictions on times available to play the course are to accommodate the wintering birds that use the cliffs during this period.

Despite some objections to the development, which some claim contravenes laws about coastal golf courses, it is thought that the scheme will be given the go ahead by the local council.

Gordon Somerville, head of planning services, said: "It is felt that, arguably, this policy does not apply to the type of course proposed here."

Those taking their caravans to the park may wish to explore the surrounding area ,which includes the attractive coastal town of Whitby or Eden Camp with its World War Two museum and assault course.
