Festival goers 'should plan ahead'
Motorists heading to Donington Park, Leicestershire, this weekend for the Download Festival have been advised by the Highways Agency to plan their journey beforehand and leave themselves with plenty of time to make the trip.
Some 45,000 people have bought tickets to the event with over 16,000 cars and caravans expected to be heading into the site.
The music festival takes place between Friday June 13th and Sunday June 15th, but with the crowds likely to start arriving on Wednesday June 11th, there could be a noticeable buildup of traffic on the M1, A42, A50 and A453 in the next several days.
Jo Ashton-Gray, operations manager for the Highways Agency, said: "The routes to the festival will be well-signposted but anyone travelling in the area should plan their journey in advance and check the latest travel conditions before they set out."
People planning to sleep in a motorcaravan, caravan, trailer tent or van will need to display a valid weekend ticket with camping upon arrival.
The supplemental ticket is sold per vehicle, but has now sold out. Vehicles are only permitted in the designated areas, and there are no electric hook-ups in the campervan site.
