Scottish caravan owners should reserve a site'

Scottish caravan owners have been urged to plan ahead before taking their holiday and reserve a site in advance.

Forward planning combined with a "modest" investment means that anyone can enjoy a comfortable camping holiday, DailyRecord.co.uk reports.

Andy Thomson and Alex Barclay, who run the ScottishCamping.com website recommend that campers take the time to call a campsite in advance and make sure they can take the group they are travelling in.

The web resource features a range of over 500 camping sites with contact details and information on facilities, while they publish a map of caravan parks and campsites available from bookstores or the site.

Mr Thomson said that some campsites do not accept dogs or children while some will not take groups of more than two people of the same sex.

"A lot of campsites get very busy in the summer, particularly up the west coast," he said.

He added that some sites in Arisaig are fully-booked in the school holidays and caravanners will not be able to get a pitch without reserving in advance.

The Grantown Caravan Park in Highland Speysid offers sites for touring caravans, motor caravans, wigwams and tents.
