Holidaymakers 'opting for self-catering vacations'
Britons looking to save a bit of money when organising their holidays are increasingly opting for camping, caravanning and other self-catering trips, it has been claimed.
The Daily Star reports that with oil prices on the rise and inflation threatening to creep upwards, financially-savvy Britons are forgoing expensive jaunts to hotel and instead deciding to take camping holidays in the UK.
It reports that the number of people going caravan and camping holidays has increased by 20 per cent.
Canvas Holidays told the Star: "Holidaymakers are opting for self-catering to save money".
Those perhaps looking for the best of both worlds - a foreign break with all the savings of a self-catering trip, could opt for a caravanning break on the continent.
Financial services comparison website MoneyExtra warns those driving abroad to make sure they have the right caravan or car insurance to meet all their foreign driving needs.
It notes that existing car insurance policies will cover drivers for third-party insurance abroad - the minimum required.
But it adds that comprehensive car insurance back home may not automatically cover drivers abroad for personal medical costs, hospital expenses and vehicle repair.
