Opposition against caravan site bid raised

A bid to increase the number of caravan pitches at a site in Halisham does not have the backing of local residents or the town mayor, according to a local news source.

Swan Barn park already has five plots but there has been a proposal to have this raised to accommodate four more, the Eastbourne Today has reported.

However, local residents believe that this could result in a rise in antisocial behaviour as well as trouble, the publication added.

In addition, it may be that caravan insurance policies in the area are also at risk, as cover firms could consider the extra vehicles indicative of an increased chance of an accident.

Halisham mayor Ian Haffenden remarked that the amenity area around the vehicles will be "insufficient" should the plots be built.

"There will be problems with space between the caravans - room in which children can play and vehicles can park - providing a decent standard of living," the official said.

Meanwhile, the Daily Post has stated that the Health and Safety Executive has launched an investigation into caravan sites in North Wales.
