RAV4 raves no more
Toyota's Rav4 4x4 has been tipped for mainstream success, thanks to crucial alterations that could well make it more popular with an older market.
The Rav4 was initially aimed at the young hatchback buyer, but the new five-door, more spacious and remodelled version is expected to win over the crucial 35-to-45 year old market instead, according to ITV Motoring.
There are three different motors that buyers can choose from, the most popular diesel of which is expected to be the 140 D-4D, a 134bhp 2.2-litre turbo-diesel, which can accelerate up to 62mph in 10.5 seconds.
Another alternative is the 150bhp two-litre VVT-i fuel-injected petrol engine with more power but less torque. The 180 D-4D is another 2.2 turbo-diesel, which can reach 62mph in 9.3 seconds.
At £26,995, this is a pricier version of the Rav4 and it is expected to challenge the BMW X3, which it beats on engine power. The Rav4 also boasts more features, including a sunroof, front fog lights, leather seats, split rear seats, satellite-navigation, a keyless entry and push-button starter.
There is also a lot of emphasis on stability and control, and the new model offers a comfortable and yet practical interior, with removable seats that can be used to obtain the optimum balance between people and cargo space.
