Used caravans can be 'heartbreaking and dangerous'

People picking up second-hand caravans are purchasing vehicles that are not in a good enough condition to be on the road, it has been claimed.

According to insurance firm Safeguard, vehicles which were heavily flooded in incidents around the UK last summer have found themselves back on the market.

This comes despite the fact that the models have been written off, so picking one up could result in dangerous scenarios for buyers.

It could be that people who buy a second-hand caravan find that it is difficult to take out a caravan insurance policy, as cover firms may be reluctant to offer a cheap deal.

Rite Sadler, Safeguard manager, commented that people can use the Caravan Registration and Identification Scheme to check that their used vehicle has not been written off.

"It's both heartbreaking and dangerous to see people spending their money on a caravan that's not fit for the road," said the official.

This comes as the Lancaster and Morecambe Citizen has reported that a new £4 million five-star holiday park is to be established close to Carnforth.
