Road closure comes after caravan fire

A road was closed for two-hours during rush hour this week after a caravan fire in St Leonards, it has been reported.

The Lewes Today has stated that traffic had to be diverted along local roads as fire officials dealt with a back garden blaze.

Harley Shute Road was closed at around 18:00 BST on Wednesday primarily because long hoses were stretched across them in order to douse the flames.

Graham Geer, from Bohemia Road Fire Station, remarked that the fire was eventually contained.

"Cars wouldn't get past because of the hoses and our equipment ... No-one was injured. We used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a jet to extinguish the fire," said the official.

It may be that a fire at a caravan park seriously damages a caravan insurance policy, as cover firms could view the problem as indicative of a greater risk and increase the cost of cover as a result.

Meanwhile, the Shropshire Star has reported that a family had to flee their caravan after it went up in flames in a lay-by.

The man and his son were not hurt, the news source added.
