Pensioner's caravan stolen before holiday
A pensioner was injured and his caravan stolen as he prepared to go on holiday to Spain, it has been reported.
Rew's £12,000 caravan had just been attached to his car when a thief jumped in and made his getaway, throwing the pensioner across the road.
Mr Rew, who suffered a broken arm during the incident was preparing for a holiday in north-west Spain with his wife Ursula when he fell victim to the thief.
Rather than take the trip, the 70-year-old is expected to spend the next six to seven weeks recovering at home.
However, the couple may be able to head off to Spain another time as the thief had to abandon the caravan outside a nearby pub in Bury.
Mr Rew told the Manchester Evening News: "There is a remote control device in the vehicle, which has to be switched to a certain position to allow the caravan to be towed smoothly.
"He wasn't getting very far, very fast," he added.
People living in the Midlands should ensure that they have up-to-date caravan insurance as last year the area was the found to have the highest incidence of caravan theft in the country, according to the AA.
