Quickest ever Jeep on the cards

Jeep is set to launch this summer the Grand Cherokee SRT, which it says will be the fastest 4x4 in the world.

The Cherokee SRT boasts a 425bhp 6.1-litre V8 engine and can go from 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds. However, Jeep has not released details of its top speed yet, so its claims that it is the fastest 4x4 in the world are as yet unsubstantiated, What Car? reports.

Jeep is releasing another two models in the UK this year, the first of which is the Grand Cherokee Overland, which Jeep describes as a luxury model at a bargain price, although what this price will be has not yet been clarified.

The other model that will go on sale in 2006 is its seven-seater Commander, which has been designated as a competitor to Land Rover's latest version of the Discovery.

Also set for a busy 2006 is Jeep's sister company, Chrysler, who will release in the UK over the course of this year the PT Cruiser Cabriolet, the estate version of the 300C, the high-performance 300C SRT-8, and finally the Dodge.
