Caravan site the victim of suspected arson attack
A caravan site was the victim of a suspected arson attack that left two caravans almost destroyed. Firefighters were called to the location, situated between Creech St Michael and Langaller, at 22:15 BST on July 20th, reports the Somerset County Gazette.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a report that a car was on fire but when two fire engines from nearby Taunton arrived, it was discovered that a transit van and two caravans were ablaze. When they appeared on the scene, officers used compressed air foam to control the flames.
Despite their efforts, both the caravans and the transit van sustained 80 per cent damage as a result of the fire. A spokesman for the fire service commented: "The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate." Anyone considering holidaying in a caravan this summer should make sure that their caravan insurance covers them against arson as well as theft and traffic accidents.
In a related incident, the Mid Sussex Times reported that a couple had their holiday plans ruined when their caravan was destroyed in another suspected arson attack outside their home earlier this month.
