Package holidays out in favour of camping
An increasing number of holidaymakers in Scotland are looking for caravan or camping breaks instead of package holidays, it has been claimed.
With more people opting for cheaper summer trips as a result of the economic downturn, some caravan sites are experiencing a boom in trade, reports the Herald. Traditionally, this time of year sees a surge Britons hunting for package holidays online.
However, internet search engine Ask.com has stated that greater numbers of prospective vacationers are looking for camping equipment and suitable sites, while searches for package holidays have dropped. Jim McCulloch, manager of the Argyll Caravan Park, commented: "The signs are very encouraging. The increase in interest lately has been marked; we've been inundated with calls." He added that business was up by 7.5 per cent on the previous year and that the rise could be attributed to an intensified domestic interest in this type of break.
Those considering taking a trip within the UK should ensure that they take out suitable caravan insurance before embarking on their journey. Inside East Lothian recently stated that some of the advantages of caravan holidays included a greater freedom to choose between eating out or cooking your own meals and that those with touring caravans could get a different view of Scotland each day.
