Holidaymakers urged to get breakdown cover
The government has warned caravan owners to ensure that their vehicles are fully covered when travelling abroad.
It has advised prospective vacationers to check that they have breakdown cover as well as holiday insurance, reports Out&AboutLive. A road safety campaign launched by the government recently found that over two-thirds of Britons end up experiencing problems when driving abroad. One common problem was that motorists who did take out breakdown cover failed to bring all the correct documents with them.
Consequently, the government has advised holidaymakers to ensure that they consulted their caravan insurance company about their policies before travelling and that the appropriate documents were packed. To minimise the risk of accidents or breakdowns, the guidelines urge drivers to have their vehicles serviced before setting out on holidays and to check that they comply with any laws in the countries visited.
Motorists who are involved in accidents should contact their insurers immediately and take photographs of any damage to vehicles. The Herald recently reported that caravan and camping breaks have experienced a growth in popularity in Scotland due to the strength of the euro and the economic downturn.
