King of the Gypsies has caravan stolen
The caravan that used to belong to Bartley Gorman, a bare knuckle fighter known as the King of the Gypsies, has been stolen.
His 1971 Morbambe, which the bruiser used to live in, was parked in the grounds of his former home in Bypass Road, Uttoxeter, reports the Burton Mail. Maria Gorman, daughter of the fighter, commented: "People have asked my family if they can buy it but we would have never sold it. We were keeping it as a memory to my father - it is priceless. We are very upset."
The family has been plagued by misfortune since Gorman's death in 2002. A pair of five-foot lion statues have been taken from the home and a window in the caravan has was smashed in the last few weeks. In addition to this, another caravan belonging to a family member was also thieved and Ms Gorman's Shogun car was petrol bombed. Caravan owners who only take their vehicles out occasionally should still ensure that they take out suitable caravan insurance to protect them in the event of theft or fire.
Residents in the Midlands should take particular care as the AA recently reported that organised thieves in the area steal around 4,000 caravans each year, around ten per cent more than in other regions.
