Caravan owners warned about gas cylinders

Fire chiefs have warned caravanners about the potential dangers of gas cylinders after two women sustained burns to their arms and legs.

The duo attempted to change a gaslight near an open flame at a park near Peterborough, reports Peterborough Today. It happened at the seven-day Faith camp held at the East of England Showground, where around 6,000 people were in attendance.

Tim Thompson, Stanground fire crew's watch manager, commented: "Gas cylinders are commonly used for barbecues and as the main power supply for caravans and mobile homes. "Extreme care should be taken in using, changing and storing these cylinders as they can be extremely dangerous if not used correctly," he added. Mr Thompson also noted that fire services receive a higher number of calls to deal with outdoor blazes and urged holidaymakers to ensure that they do not take unnecessary risks.

Vacationers taking a break with a home away from home in tow should ensure that they take out suitable caravan insurance. In related news, the BBC reported that a road in north Wales was recently closed off because firefighters feared there may have been acetylene cylinders at a caravan park which had caught fire.
