Holidaymakers going to France need reflective jacket

Vacationers travelling to France for their summer break should be aware of new legislation in the country requiring any vehicle with four wheels to have a reflective jacket on board.

In the event of an emergency or breakdown, drivers must have the item close to hand, reports Out & About Live. The high-visibility clothing must be put on before leaving the car, whether it is day or night, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

From October 1st, any driver found not to be in compliance with the new regulations will be fined. Neil Greg, director of the IAM, commented: "In France [you] must carry a reflective jacket. It's worth investing in one before you leave to ensure you don't end up with a nasty fine when you're on holiday." He added that it would be a pity to be landed in trouble with the French authorities for the sake of a jacket.

Last month, Out & About Live reported that the government released a series of guidelines for motorists traveling to the continent. It recommended that drivers thinking of holidaying abroad should ensure that they are familiar with the laws of the road in any country they will be driving in. Holidaymakers were also advised to carry all relevant documentation for caravan insurance companies, breakdown and emergency services and the British consulate.
