Jail sentence for arsonist
A man has been jailed for two years after pleading guilty to an arson attack on a Lancashire caravan park.
The incident took place on March 23rd this year at Ewood Caravan Site in Blackburn, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.
James Young, a 21-year-old resident of the site, admitted to pouring petrol on the park's gates and lighting it following an argument with a family member.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack and residents had no need to claim on their caravan insurance policies, as they were able to douse the flames using a hose and buckets of water.
Mr Young had been so drunk at the time of the incident that police had to wait 24 hours for him to sober up before questioning him.
Judge Simon Newell told him he could easily have been facing more serious charges, stating: "It is very, very fortunate that nothing more drastic happened than the petrol burning in the street."
A family from Shropshire recently awoke in the early hours of the morning to discover their caravan had been set alight by an arsonist.
The vehicle, which was parked in the garden of the family home, was destroyed in the incident, but fire fighters managed to stop the blaze before it spread to the house.
