Questions over double-decker
A council in Scotland is investigating whether a double-decker mobile home can be classed as a caravan without requiring planning permission, caravan insurance customers may be interested to learn.
Highland council is looking into a structure currently housed on Pitgurdy Caravan Park in Sutherland, the Press and Journal reports.
It is thought that Green Parcs, which owns the campsite, is planning to add a further 70 static caravans to the site, some of which may be similar to the one under review.
Allan Todd, the council's planning manager for the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross area, said he had requested evidence from Green Parcs to support its belief that the structure is a caravan.
"I really struggle to see how it meets the definition, but we're here to be convinced if somebody can produce the evidence," Mr Todd claimed.
"If it is a caravan, and it is found in law to be a caravan, then it has major implications across the UK. Any caravan, anywhere could be replaced with one of these structures," he added.
In related news, eight fire engines tackled a blaze at a caravan sales park in Prestatyn, North Wales, the BBC reports.
The news provider notes that eight static caravans may have been destroyed in the fire.
