Motorists told to check tyres
Caravan insurance customers setting off on their summer holidays could be at risk if they do not check that their tyres are in good condition, it has been claimed.
A new study conducted by Protyre discovered that only 34 per cent motorists always check their tyres before they set off.
Those in the north-east were found to take the most care, with half checking tyres regularly.
However, less than a quarter of drivers in Northern Ireland claimed to ensure their tyres meet legal requirements before hitting the road.
Phil Brookes, operations director at Protyre, said many drivers are evidently "oblivious to the safety implications" of tyres that are in bad condition.
"Unfortunately, there is still a long way to go in educating the public on the importance of tyres, which we are continuously working hard on," Mr Brookes claimed.
"We urge all motorists to spend time on vehicle maintenance ahead of their departure this bank holiday," he added.
Those with caravan insurance may be interested to learn that Haynes has published new manuals for those embarking on caravanning and camping holidays this year.
According to the publisher, the guides offer useful information on a wide range of subjects.
