Thousands of caravans to travel overseas
An estimated 50,000 caravans are expected to travel via the Port of Dover this summer, it has been claimed.
However, in order to avoid having to make claims on their caravan insurance, holidaymakers are urged to follow several important steps.
Caravan owners need to ensure they are aware of the height of their vehicle to allow for "quicker and easier" boarding.
When taking their place on the ferry, motorists should also apply their parking brake and disconnect gas bottles while in transit, the port advised.
Keith Southey from the Port of Dover said: "At a time of increasing pressures on family budgets due to the credit crunch, a caravan holiday by ferry becomes a very attractive option."
Both caravanning and ferries are experiencing an increase in interest in recent months, it has been claimed.
According to the Caravan Club, bookings from caravan enthusiasts are presently ten per cent higher than last year.
Meanwhile, the Times reports that cross-channel ferry operators are aiming to offer an alternative to flight delays and rising fares.
The newspaper claims ferries have avoided raising prices by either slowing down their services or reducing journeys to cut the amount of fuel used.
