Caravan blaze investigated
In news which may prompt people to take out caravan insurance, a fire which damaged a caravan and a boat in Plymouth is being treated as an arson attack by police.
The incident, which took place on Friday August 15th, required several fire crews to attend the scene, the Plymouth Herald reports.
According to Bill Richards from Hooe, who witnessed the fire, both the boat and the caravan - which were 100 yards apart - went up in flames "at once".
Claiming he heard a "flash and a bang", Mr Richards speculated that the fire was started deliberately.
"Prior to that I had heard people around that area - whoever did it must have used accelerants because the weather has meant everything is very wet," he told the newspaper.
The fire service managed to extinguish the fires using breathing apparatus and a hose reel, the Herald noted.
Friday's incident was one of several caravan fires recorded in recent weeks, with police in Warminster investigating a suspicious blaze which destroyed a caravan on the road between Heytesbury and Sutton Veny, the Wiltshire Times reports.
Emergency services attending the scene also had to secure two liquid petroleum gas cylinders close by.
