Estate agents are the group that would most benefit from cheap car insurance, research by Churchill Car Insurance suggests.

A survey conducted by the insurance firm found that estate agents were more likely than anyone else to claim on their car insurance policies.

This was put down to the fact that they often use their cars during the daytime, when the roads are busy, as they rush to meet clients.

They are also more likely to drive in built-up areas, and tend to park wherever a space is available.

Other people who were found to make claims frequently include doctors, chefs, social workers and nurses.

The results also showed that farmers and ambulance drivers make fewer claims, suggesting that they would not benefit so much from cheap car insurance.

Less congestion in the country could be the reason why farmers don't crash so much, Churchill believes. And ambulance drivers rarely claim on their insurance because they are expert drivers.

Churchill Car Insurance chief Darren McCauley said: "Those who have jobs which involve working outdoors or drive for a living tend to have fewer accidents.

"Estate agents make lots of journeys in their cars during the day - dashing to see clients in the urban areas and often parking wherever they can when they arrive."
