Bank holiday congestion expected
Caravan insurance customers seeking to make the most of the last bank holiday weekend until December have been told to expect high levels of congestion.
The RAC is predicting busy roads on Friday as people make their way across the country for their holidays or to travel to festivals.
According to the company, high volumes of traffic may be further compounded by the news that rail firms are planning to carry out engineering work on some lines, meaning many people may choose to travel by car instead.
Of the "congestion hotspots" identified by the firm, those that are likely to affect caravan insurance customers on their way to weekend breaks are the M6 and A590 to the Lake District, the M55 to Blackpool, the M56 and A55 between the north of England and north Wales and the A47 between the Midlands and Norfolk.
Iain Vale from the RAC said as the school holidays come to an end, many families will be taking the opportunity this weekend to "get their last bit of summer sun".
"This is the last bank holiday before Christmas and to make the most of it drivers need to leave plenty of time for their journeys, and, where possible, avoid the Friday rush," he remarked.
A survey by the AA found 56 per cent of motorists are planning to stay at home this bank holiday, with 23 per cent blaming the rising cost of fuel.
