Double-decker caravan to be dismantled

The owners of a double-decker 'caravan' situated on a Scottish caravan site have been told they have to dismantle the vehicle or face legal action.

Green Parcs, which owns Pitgurday caravan site near Dornoch, have a month to comply with the ruling from the Highland council, which has threatened action if it is not done, the Northern Times reports.

The issue was discussed by the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross planning committees this week, but it was found that there were no restrictions on the types of caravans that could be placed in the site.

However, Green Parcs did not have a relevant licence for such vehicles and because it did not fall under the definition of a caravan the planning committee said it was not allowed, the newspaper notes.

Allan Todd, area planning manager, said: "I am now looking at what we do next, and I suggest that we write to the new owners again, giving them a very definite period to remove the unit, split it into two, or make a planning application to retain it."

In related news, Lakeside Holiday Park in Runcton has applied for a restriction on the length of time touring caravans can stay on the site to be lifted, the Mid Sussex Times reports.
