Police investigate caravan break-in

Police in Skegness are investigating a break-in at a caravan in the area while its occupant was asleep.

The Skegness Standard reports that the incident occurred at 4:30 BST on Saturday at the Promenade Caravan Site, Ingoldmells.

Burglars used a concrete slab to smash a window in the caravan and gain access, caravan insurance customers may be interested to know.

The occupant reported to police that a handbag, which contained cash, bankers cards and a number of other items were stolen while they were asleep inside the caravan, the newspaper notes.

In July Lincolnshire police announced that it was launching a new campaign to raise awareness of the risk of theft from caravans.

PCSO Chris Wood, caravan liaison officer, said: "We need to get across to all caravan owners that they need to get more security 'savvy' and wise up to the fact that leaving property in caravans and sheds, particularly during the closed season is foolish.

"We also want people to be aware that leaving their caravan doors and windows ajar during the summer is leaving their property wide open to being stolen."

The force said it would be working with a Caravan Watch scheme to help raise awareness of the issue.
