Smash closes road

An accident involving a caravan closed a stretch of road in the north-east of England, it has been reported.

The Sunderland Echo states that part of the A19 needed to be closed after a caravan and two cars were involved in a crash.

According to the newspaper, the incident, which may require a claim on caravan insurance, occurred at 08:25 BST on Saturday.

Police were forced to close the outside lane of the north-bound carriageway near Easington Services while the debris was removed from the road.

An onlooker told the newspaper that the crash "looked really nasty".

"There wasn't much left of the caravan, just a pile of metal. It's a miracle nobody was hurt," they said.

The Northern Echo reports that a spokesman for the Durham Constabulary said that the caravan had suffered significant damage in the incident, but no one had been injured in the crash.

In related news, the Bucks Free Press reports that two lanes of the north-bounds carriageway of the M40 had to be closed recently when a caravan overturned.

The incident forced the close of the road between junction 1A of the M25 and two at Beaconsfield, according to the newspaper.
