Caravan park refused permission
Caravan insurance customers in the north-east may be disappointed to learn that plans for a caravan holiday park in Sedgefield Village, County Durham, have not been approved.
Theakston Estates' had put forward plans for the development of the park, which would house 330 caravans, the Northern Echo reports.
However, Sedgefield borough council voted against the proposals for building the park, prompting Theakston to appeal against the decision.
The council has now published the details of a public inquiry that was held in July, according to the newspaper.
Planning inspector Colin Ball said although the scheme would "contribute significantly" to the area's "tourism objectives", there were issues with the location of part of the development.
"However, the smaller area of development in the northern part of the site, remote from the main body of caravans, would be particularly harmful within its specific context," Mr Ball said.
"Development here would not give sufficient protection to this area of landscape, the most environmentally sensitive part of the site," he added.
According to the newspaper, many residents have also voiced their concerns over the plans.
Meanwhile, Blue Sky Resorts has withdrawn an application to extend a caravan park in Northumberland, the Journal reports.
