Caravan park planners dismiss fears

The person behind plans for a new caravan park in Orford has moved to dismiss suggestions that it will be used by the travelling community.

The Warrington Guardian reports that Philip Brown, acting as agent on behalf of William Smith, told the local council's planning officers that the ten-pitch caravan site will be used by the elderly.

"Some people, particularly the elderly, prefer to live in mobile homes, which are relatively cheap to build and inexpensive to run," Mr Brown explained.

The site would also make "very effective use" of a brownfield site, he told the council.

Caravan insurance customers may be interested to learn that the plans include demolishing building currently on the site to create space for the plots, which will each have room for two parking spaces.

However, a number of local residents are opposed to the scheme, with one stating that the park would have a "devastating" impact on the area, the newspaper notes.

In related news, residents in St Asaph, Wales, recently voiced concern over an application made by a local caravan park to be able to sell alcohol, YourVale reports.

Those opposed to the idea said they were worried about levels of crime and noise.
