Caravan market "holding up well"

The market for caravans continues to remain buoyant, according to one member of the industry.

According to the Hull Daily Mail, the annual Lawns Caravan Extravaganza starts this week and now in its 32nd year, the event is expected to bring together 20,000 caravan fans, many of whom may be caravan insurance customers.

The event is set to include over 160 touring caravans from manufacturers based in east Yorkshire, including Coachman Caravans, whose owner Jim Hibbs said that the market was "holding up well".

David Ritchie, the organiser of the event, told the newspaper that visitors to the show would be able to see some special caravans this year.

"The market conditions are difficult but manufacturers have made a really big effort to make it a great year," he commented.

Figures published by the National Caravan Council recently showed that in 2007 sales of touring caravans and other motor homes increased.

The council stated that sales of leisure caravan products exceeded 69,000 last year, while the UK now boasts 500,000 touring caravans and 2,000 touring parks.

It is estimated that nearly two million people in Britain now take touring caravan holidays each year.
