Motorists urged to check windscreens

Caravan insurance customers setting off on their travels this weekend may want to heed advice about chipped windscreens.

Kwik-Fit is urging motorists not to let the credit crunch deter them from repairing chipped windscreens, as failing to take action can lead to additional costs further down the line.

According to the firm, 10.5 million drivers have chips in their windscreens that they have yet to attend to, but warns that leaving them can mean drivers have to replace their entire windscreen.

David White, customer services director for Kwik-Fit, commented: "Even though money might be tight, there's really no reason to put off repairing a chipped windscreen."

Failing to deal with damaged windscreens is "clearly a flawed way of economising", Mr White added.

Earlier this summer, Tyresafe recommended caravanners carry out a tyre check before setting off to give themselves "peace of mind".

The company advised them to check the pressure of their tyres are correct, they have the required tread depth and are in good condition.

It stated: "Tyres are the only component of a caravan to come into contact with the road, so are vital to its stability and safety."
