Caravan owners affected by floods
A number of holidaymakers may be set to claim on their caravan insurance after the land where they were staying was flooded this week.
Many of those camping at Coquet Moor Farm in Northumberland were forced to leave when the River Coquet flooded the area, the Northumberland Gazette reports.
Philip Grenfell, who owns the site, said the flooding was likely to have a significant impact on his business.
"The caravans are fairly central to the life of the farm," he told the newspaper.
He added: "This flood is unprecedented in our history."
The river water reached up to the windows of caravans close to the banks and damaged many of the vehicles' interiors, including beds and electrical equipment.
A bridge crossing the river was also destroyed when it was struck by tree trunks being carried along by the current, the newspaper noted.
In related news, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service is investigating a blaze that damaged a static caravan on Wednesday.
The fire, which occurred at The Point Caravan Park in Cogenhoe Mill, badly damaged the caravan and caused further damage to two other vehicles, the Northampton Chronicle and Echo reports.
