Credit crunch benefitting seaside holiday market

The general manager of a caravan park in Weymouth has suggested the credit crunch has had a positive impact upon the market for seaside holidays in the UK.

Neil Ankers from Weymouth Bay Holiday Park told the Dorset Echo that many people are turning to British seaside resorts for their holidays due to present financial conditions.

"The credit crunch and the cost of flying are having a positive impact on the seaside holiday market," Mr Ankers commented.

People come to the park and "explore local restaurants, local pubs and local sights", He explained.

"Caravan holidays are the traditional holidays in the UK. They have been going for decades," he added.

A spokesperson for the caravan Club recently said that many people "appreciate the freedom and flexibility" offered by caravan holidays, caravan insurance customers may be interested learn.

Some people also think a holiday in the UK offers "better value" than a trip abroad given current economic conditions, the expert stated.

According to figures from the National Caravan Council, sales of touring caravans, motorhomes, caravan holiday homes and park homes all increased in 2007.

There are currently around 500,000 touring caravans in use in the UK, the organisation said.
