Caravan firm calls in administrators
A caravan manufacturer in north Warwickshire has suspended production and called in the administrators.
The Coventry Telegraph reports that Avondale Coachcraft, which builds touring caravans and sells vehicles across the UK, has appointed Mark Hopkins and Matthew Hammond of PricewaterhouseCoopers as administrators.
Caravan insurance customers may be interested to know that the company is blaming poor sales during the summer months for its present circumstances.
It said in a statement that it had attempted to remedy the situation by suspending production until sales improved, but this failed to prevent the company from going into administration.
Mr Hammond told the newspaper that the company has the design rights to several new models of caravans which "may be attractive to a purchaser".
"We are in discussion with a number of parties who have expressed an initial interest in acquiring the business," he remarked.
The news may come as a surprise to many following claims that caravanning has been experiencing something of a boom in recent years.
A spokesperson for the Caravan Club recently said that there had been an increase in pitch bookings so far this year, due in part to the credit crunch and the number of people seeking a holiday that offered "better value".
