Caravan park plans welcomed
The expansion of a caravan park in Suffolk ought to be welcomed, according to a local councillor.
Plans have been put forward for the addition of 60 new holiday caravans at Stonharm Barns Caravan and Camping Park near Stowmarket, the Ipswich Evening Star reports.
Mid Suffolk council are due to discuss the proposals and Tim Passmore, leader of the authority, said the rural economy was in need of a "boost" and holidaymakers will spend money in the area.
"Tourism is a key industry in the county and mid Suffolk is well placed for the coast, our heritage, our lovely buildings," Mr Passmore stated.
"But this has, on balance to be welcomed, especially during an economic downturn. This is a large tourism plan for our area," he added.
However, the plans have drawn criticism from some quarters, with a number of local residents voicing their concern over the size of the development and how it may lead to greater levels of traffic and noise.
Caravanning is becoming an increasingly popular pastime, according to the National Caravan Council.
Statistics from the council showed that there are now 500,000 touring caravans in use in the UK, and 2,000 touring parks, caravan insurance customers may be interested to learn.
