The UK is 'cool'

The UK has become a "cool" place to take a holiday, it has been claimed by one travel journalist.

Russell Amerasekera said that the UK's major cities "really do stack up" against any others in the world, caravan insurance customers may be interested to know.

"London, Manchester, and Birmingham - they all have as much to offer in terms of shopping experience, the night life experience, the restaurant experience and culture as well," Mr Amerasekera remarked.

The expert said he had spent a great deal of his life travelling abroad but now he was "standing up for the UK".

According to the United Kingdom Travel Survey conducted by VisitBritain, British residents made 32.9 million overnight trips in the UK between January and April this year.

It noted that spending on such trips rose by four per cent compared with the corresponding period of 2007 to £5.6 billion.

Earlier this year, Nikki Nichol, head of PR for the Caravan Club, said that caravanning accounts for 19 per cent of holidays taken in the UK.

It is also a pastime enjoyed by a wide variety of people from "all walks of life", the expert commented.
