Caravan park sees increase in visitors

A caravan park in Blackpool has seen an increase in visitors over the past year, in a trend attributed to the credit crunch.

The Blackpool Gazette reports that Marton Mere caravan park, which is owned by Bourne Leisure, saw a ten per cent rise in visitors in the past 12 months.

Andy Casey, general manager of the park, said it had been a "fantastic year" for those involved in running caravan parks in the area.

He estimated that 1,400 more families stayed at the park in the past year, compared with the corresponding period last year.

"It shows a number of families are seeing the effects of the credit crunch and choosing to stay closer to home, and importantly, here on the Fylde coast," Mr Casey remarked.

The local parks have also been "boosted" by the regeneration work being carried out in Blackpool, he added.

According to figures from the National Caravan Council, there are currently around 500,000 touring caravans in use in the UK and 2,000 touring parks, caravan insurance customers may be interested to learn.

The council also reported that sales of leisure caravan products reached 69,000 last year.
