Drivers are 'more confident' with sat navs

Many motorists who use satellite navigation (sat nav) devices feel "more in control" when behind the wheel, it has been claimed.

Jenny Hodge, public relations manager for TomTom in the UK and Ireland, said research carried out by the firm in partnership with TNO showed the "positive influence" sat navs have on driver safety.

The research revealed that using sat nav technology "heightens awareness" and helps to reduce levels of stress for the driver - something that may be welcomed by caravan insurance customers embarking on long journeys.

Ms Hodge stated that 74 per cent of sat nav owners said they feel "more in control" when they use the technology.

"In addition, use of a sat nav reduces the number of miles driven and the time spent travelling, which in turn has a positive effect on the environment and fuel costs," she commented.

Sat nav owners may be able to avoid having to make claims on their caravan insurance by following the advice of police in Worcester.

A spokesman urged people to remove all traces of the equipment when they leave their vehicles to deter thieves from breaking in, the Worcester Standard reports.
