Beware of winter driving conditions, motorists told
Motorists are being urged to ensure they are fully prepared for winter driving conditions - advice that may be of benefit to caravan insurance customers.
Sussex police have advised people to be aware of the potential hazards they may face during the winter months.
Inspector Keith Ellis, of the North Downs Road Policing Unit, said: "Ensure your vehicle is safe and well maintained and drive safely and appropriately this winter."
According to the force, ensuring that vehicles are "fit for purpose" can help the police and other agencies to achieve their aim of reducing deaths and serious injuries on the region's roads.
Motorists ought to make sure their vehicle's lighting is working, their washer bottles are filled and that their tyres can cope with wet and slippery conditions, Sussex police recommended.
Eris Robertson, a traffic officer with the Highways Agency, advised people to be "well prepared" for travelling, regardless of the weather.
Motorists ought to know where they are going, which roads they are using and the conditions they will be driving in before they leave.
"If really bad conditions are forecast, think about whether you need to travel at all, even if you are only going on a short, familiar journey," she said.
