Eco-friendly caravan site opened
The Caravan Club has opened what is believed to be the UK's greenest caravan site in Derbyshire.
Environmentally-conscious caravan insurance customers may be interested to learn that the Poolsbrook Country Park Caravan Club Site features solar panels and photo-voltaic cells on several buildings.
Meanwhile, water in the site's showers and washbasins are also pre-heated using energy from the sun and a wind turbine is to be installed to generate electricity.
Under-floor heating systems have also been set up to ensure the floors of the site's toilet blocks remain warm.
In total, the acquisition and development of the eco-friendly site cost approximately £1.9 million.
Grenville Chamberlain, chairman of the Caravan Club, cut the ceremonial ribbon to mark the opening of the site and said the organisation was pleased with the development of the site.
"The club is immensely proud of this new and unique site, the labours of this development have produced the greenest caravan site development in the UK," Mr Chamberlain remarked.
Nikki Nichol, head of PR at the Caravan Club, recently said that under-floor heating was just one of a number of technological advances enjoyed by caravan insurance customers these days.
The expert said caravans can feature full-sized cookers and flat-screen plasma televisions.
