Motorists given savings tips
Drivers have been offered tips in order to cut the cost of being on the road.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has produced a list of factors which could lower a driver's outlay, it may interest caravan insurance customers to learn.
According to the IAM, motoring costs, including purchasing insurance, have increased by £277 a year since 2007, almost a 20 per cent jump in year-on-year figures.
To help combat these costs it states motorists should drive smoothly and make sure they anticipate road conditions, which will help reduce accidents in the process, possibly lowering caravan insurance premiums.
Drivers are advised to turn their engines off when stuck in a traffic jam, a move which will help lower carbon emissions.
Making sparing use of features such as air-conditioning and heated windows is advised by the IAM, as is emptying a roof rack in order to avoid increased fuel consumption.
Careful route planning, making sure a vehicle is regularly serviced and taking safety measures to avoid accidents are all noted as ways in which caravan insurance customers can save money.
Elsewhere, the Association of British Insurers claims one in twenty motorists are driving without insurance because they believe they can get away with it.
