Caravan stolen from Peterborough couple

A couple from Peterborough have been left devastated after thieves stole their £15,000 caravan.

Containing a number of expensive items, the Bailey Senator Arizona caravan was taken last week from the home of Arthur and Sheila Chapman after the pair had returned from a holiday in Scotland.

Sadly for the couple, their caravan insurance had expired leaving them facing the task of replacing their caravan and belongings themselves.

Mr Chapman told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph that the couple's life savings had gone into buying the caravan.

"We arrived home in the afternoon and the next thing we knew, our neighbour told us that our caravan had just disappeared off our drive," he told the newspaper.

"I made a list of all the items that have gone with the caravan and it's endless," he added.

Local police are appealing for anyone with information about the theft, which took place last Monday at 22:30 BST, to come forward.

Louise Wood, director of communications for the National Caravan Council, recently said that there are under 2,000 caravan thefts a year in the UK.

Top of the range caravans now have built-in immobilisers to deter thieves, she said, warning that wheel clamps and hitch locks are "generally insufficient" security measures.
